How To Deal With Damaged Wooden Doors And Windows, Use Sandpaper To Solve It Skillfully?

1. Use sandpaper to solve

If there is damage on the surface of the wooden door, such as a crack or a hole in a certain place, the damaged place should be filled with putty first, then sanded, and then painted with primer and topcoat.

If the base layer is not damaged, you can consider painting directly. The correct process is to sand the original wooden door with sandpaper, and then directly paint the primer and topcoat. Because generally the finished doors are waxed, there will be grease on the surface, after polishing, the adhesion of the paint can be improved. There is no difference in quality between refurbishment and first painting, so there is no need to worry about shorter life span or other quality problems.

2. Renovation of basic parts

A question that everyone will pay attention to when renovating wooden doors is whether oil-based paint or water-based paint was originally used on wooden doors. If the same kind of paint is not used during renovation, will the quality be poor? Experts say there is nothing to worry about.

Generally speaking, there are three types of oil paints, polyester paint, nitro paint and alkyd paint. Alkyd paint is an older product that dries slowly and is used less and less in renovations. Nitro lacquer dries quickly but the paint film is thin. It needs to be painted many times, and it is easy to whiten when the humidity is high. Polyester paint is used relatively more, the film is fast and the effect is better.

If you originally used oil-based paint, you can consider using the same paint, or you can consider using water-based paint. Generally speaking, the adhesion of the same kind of paint will be relatively good, the exception is polyester paint. If the polyester paint is first painted, and then the polyester paint is painted again, the original paint film needs to be melted to have better adhesion. A problem with this kind of renovation is that the adhesion between the renovated paint film and the original paint film will not be very good. If the new film is damaged, such as being scratched or smashed by a sharp object, digging along the crack or pit will cause the two surface layers to peel off. However, water-based paint is relatively more environmentally friendly, and the renovation of wooden doors is mostly carried out indoors. Oil-based paint has a strong smell and is difficult to volatilize. It is recommended that you use water-based paint for renovation.

It should be noted that if the wooden door is refurbished, the longer the first paint spraying time, the better. Because when refurbishing, the original substrate has been completely dry, and it will not affect the re-sprayed paint film. If it is a wooden door just bought, it is recommended not to spray it first. Because if the smell is strong, it means that it is not dry enough, resulting in poor adhesion of the paint film.
